Student testimonial : Victoria Brielsa

1) How long have you been in Japan and why did you decide to move here?

We are living in Tokyo since February 28 of this year. The reason for the move was because my husband was transfer to work for 5 years. I had never had the opportunity to study Japanese before that.

– Hace cuánto tiempo ha estado viviendo en Japón y porque decidió mudarse aquí!?

Nos encontramos viviendo en Tokyo desde el 28 de Febrero del presente año. El motivo de la mudanza fue debido a que trasladaron a mi marido a trabajar por 5 años. Nunca había tenido la oportunidad de estudiar japonés antes, es decir que mi nivel era principiante.

2) What is something that surprised you when you first arrived in Japan?

The first thing that caught my attention was the cleanliness and order, although Tokyo is a super-populated city there are no traffic problems and everything works perfectly. The kindness of its inhabitants and the energy they put into performing any task amazed.

They always give 100% of their capacity. Last I did not imagine that most people in this country do not speak English, even younger people are in the same situation. The size of the crows was something also that I did not expect!

– Que fue lo que le sorprendió apenas arribó a Japón!?

Lo primero que me llamó la atención fue la limpieza y el orden, a pesar que Tokio es una ciudad súper poblada no hay problemas de tránsito y todo funciona a la perfección. La amabilidad de sus habitantes y la energía que ponen para realizar cualquier tarea, me maravilló. Todos dan el 100% de su capacidad siempre. Por última no me imaginé que la mayoría de las personas de este país no hablen inglés, incluso la gente más joven se encuentra en la misma situación. El tamaño de los cuervos fue algo que no me esperaba!

3) Why did you choose to study at Coto Japanese Club? What is your impression of learning at Coto?

A person who has lived three years in Japan recommended CJC and on the other hand I liked the attention and the place of study.The methodology they use is very interesting and works very well. Since I took the intensive course, I can say that the amount of daily hours were necessary and sufficient, since learning is gradual. In this way, level by level is consolidated and progress is made with firm steps. The teachers and staff are extremely professional and warm in a relaxed atmosphere. The most interesting is the ability to use what I learned in class directly in daily life, I think that starting to understand the basic domestic things of this type of language is the door that motivates and gives confidence to continue venturing to learn.

– Porque elegió estudiar en Coto Japanese Club (CJC) !? Cuál es su impresión de aprender en CJC!?

Una persona que lleva viviendo tres años en Japón me recomendaron CJC, por otro lado me gustó mucho la atención y el lugar de estudio. La metodología que utilizan es muy interesante y funciona muy bien. Dado que realicé el curso intensivo puedo decir que las horas diarias fueron las necesarias y suficientes, ya que el aprendizaje es gradual. De esta forma se consolida nivel a nivel y se avanza con paso firme. Las profesoras y el staff son sumamente profesionales y cálidos en un ambiente distendido. Lo más interesante es la posibilidad de utilizar lo aprendido en clase directamente en la vida diaria, creo que comenzar entendiendo las cosas domésticas básicas de este tipo de idioma es la puerta que motiva y da confianza a seguir aventurándose a aprender.

4) Do you have any stories showing your progress in Japanese? How have you been able to use the Japanese you learn in school in your daily life?

I have several anecdotes where, for example in the desperation to communicate what I have learned in class it emerges and has saved me in more than one opportunity from situations that are uncomfortable or impossible to solve. From taking a taxi indicating the way forward in Japanese, or locate the bus or metro stop. Also read hiragana or katacana makes the difference of staying to eat or get up in a restaurant the same situation in a supermarket.

– Tiene alguna historia que demuestre el progreso en el idioma!? Ha sido capaz de utilizar el japonés que ha aprendido en su vida diaria!?

Tengo varias anécdotas donde por ejemplo en la desesperación de necesitar comunicarme lo aprendido en clase aflora y me ha salvado en más de una oportunidad de situaciones incómodas o imposible de resolver. Desde tomar un taxi e indicarle el camino en japonés, o localizar la parada de un bus o metro. También leer hiragana o katacana hace la diferencia de quedarse a comer o levantarse en un restaurante, igual situación en un supermercado.

5) What’s your best tip for anyone thinking about starting learning Japanese, especially for expats who never studied Japanese?

I think one of the keys to success in learning is patience and especially in this kind of language. The steps of the methodology are studied and for that reason I understand that it works. Also studying and doing homework is a must to fix and memorize.

Enjoy the classes and the time that is invested in learning I think it is part of an effective and genuine learning.

– Cuál es un mejor consejo para alguien que está pensando estudiar Japonés, especialmente expatriados que nunca estudiaron el idioma?

Creo que una de las claves para tener éxito en el aprendizaje es la paciencia y especialmente en este tipo de idiomas. Los pasos de la metodología se encuentran estudiados y por tal motivo entiendo que funcionan. También estudiar y hacer la tarea es algo imprescindible para fijar y memorizar. Pero también disfrutar de las clases y del tiempo que se invierte en aprender creo que es parte de un aprendizaje eficaz y genuino.
